Marcus Weatherall grew up in Walgett with strong family connections to Brewarrina and Goodooga. Since moving to Newcastle in 2012, he has dedicated his time to working with young Aboriginal people as an Activities Officer for the Safe Aboriginal Youth program at PCYC Newcastle, and as an Aboriginal School Learning Support Officer at Hunter Sports High School.
Marcus has received awards such as Young Citizen of the Year from the Walgett Shire and a Duke of Edinburgh Award, and been part of many young Aboriginal leadership committees. He has a deep understanding of the role that family and community play in supporting young Aboriginal people to overcome any educational and social barriers they may face in order to thrive and become leaders in their communities.
Marcus is interested in sharing stories with other First Nations people about the effects of suicide and the different strategies that can be put in place to support young people.
